Dragon Horse War by D. Jackson Leigh

>> Thursday, March 5, 2015

A priestess of peace and a fiery warrior must defeat a vicious uprising that entwines their destinies and ultimately their hearts.

When is war justified to preserve peace?

Society has evolved into one collective belief that celebrates diversity. Luxury credits are earned and spent only after the world population is fed and educated. But when catastrophic weather kills thousands and destroys crops, people begin to look for answers among ancient legends of guilt, retribution, and a vengeful deity.

Jael, seasoned commander of a latent cell of dragon horse warriors, understands what Alyssa, an alluring young priestess, doesn’t—words won’t be enough to quell the violent sect preying on the population’s fear and hunger. As their conflicting ideologies threaten to jeopardize their mission, Alyssa and Jael realize their growing attraction and entwined destiny might be more formidable than the enemy they have been called upon to defeat.

About D. Jackson Leigh

Jackson Leigh grew up barefoot and happy, swimming in farm ponds and riding rude ponies in rural south Georgia.

Her passion for writing led her to a career in journalism and North Carolina where she edits breaking news at night and writes lesbian romance stories by day.

Herbal Rituals by Judith Berger

>> Wednesday, March 4, 2015

Herbal Rituals weaves elements from disparate myths, religious rituals, Native American traditions, and memories from the author's childhood to create a living, breathing tapestry, situating the reader vividly into each month of nature's yearly cycle. It includes recipes for meals, medicinal infusions, herbal honey, brandies, lotions, soothing baths, and rituals in the spirit of each season.

Herbal Rituals is about connecting with Nature and the plant world in order to keep us near to the ground of our own souls. The book records, month by month, a yearlong journey in to the earth's natural cycle. Month by month readers are given a poetic description of a facet of the earth's temperament, offering us an opportunity to immerse ourselves in Nature's unique expression of birth, growth, fruition, decay, death and regeneration, the primary cycle that weaves a thread of continuance through our lives. Each monthly chapter discusses one or two herbs in detail - what it's like, how it grows, what it does - as well as presenting recipes for teas, lotions and foods, along with rituals appropriate to the season that can bring your life into harmony with the moods of nature. Even in an urban environment, the constant presence of the elemental natural world and the use of herbs can be a touchstone to bring both body and soul back to a natural cadence. For thousands of years, humans have used herbs and trees for just this kind of medicine, in addition to calling on the plants as a source of nutrition, remedy, heating, shelter and magic. These are the old ways.

About Judith Berger

Judith Berger has been studying and practicing herbal medicine since 1986. She integrates decades of experience as an herbalist with her medical background as a physician assistant to serve clients and patients interested in integrative care. She also teaches yoga, and, when not writing, spends much of her free time in the mountains and fields of New York State, receiving and learning more about the gifts of the plant world. She believes that natural medicine is our birthright and that imbibing herbs in many forms provides vitality and pleasure, the root of all wellbeing.

The Way Into Darkness by Harry Connolly

Book 3 of The Great Way, the trilogy concludes as Tejohn and Cazia struggle to find a weapon to use against The Blessing, and to find the power that unleashed them onto Kal-Maddum.

"Epic Fantasy that reads like a Thriller." -- Kat Richardson, author of The Greywalker series

BOOK THREE OF THE GREAT WAY: What was once the Peradaini Empire is now a wasted landscape of burned, empty cities and abandoned farmlands. The Blessing, now more numerous than ever, continues to spread across the continent, driving refugees to the dubious safety of the city walls. Unharvested crops mean that few strongholds have enough provisions to last the winter, although most know the grunts will take them before starvation will.

But hope survives. A piece of stolen magic just might halt the spread of The Blessing if Tejohn and Cazia can find a scholar with the skill to recreate the spell. If such a person still lives.

Unfortunately, they are nearly out of time. The few remaining human enclaves are isolated and under siege. Worse, The Blessing has spread to other sentient creatures. If Cazia and Tejohn are going to strike back at their monstrous enemy, they can not delay.

And there’s another, deeper question left unaddressed: where did The Blessing come from, and why have they invaded Kal-Maddum?

The Way Into Darkness is the final book in The Great Way, wrapping up the story begun in The Way Into Chaos and continued in The Way Into Magic.

The Sequetus Series – All twenty-four books by Nick Broadhurst

>> Tuesday, March 3, 2015

This is the full 24 books of the Sequetus Series. It spans over a thousand years; for some, many lifetimes. It is how an extraterrestrial intelligence agent comes to Earth, to determine what is really happening here. It's 1989. He ends up defending Earth from annihilation. The agent finds that Earth is not only planet infiltrated, but others out there are also subverted, by an unknown enemy.

The Sequetus Series is big. It is about the subversion of a galaxy, this galaxy, and all the civilizations in it. The book starts off when an intelligence officer from out there is directed on a mission to Earth, known as Sequetus 3. He is to find out why there is such an anomaly with this one planet. For some reason the planet is way overdue its Intervention Day. The planet governments insist that the visitors they get from out there absolutely do not exist. Yet half the population believe that they are not alone, in the galaxy.

The planet also has a short-lived population, and instead of the normal 325 years, people from Earth live only around 75 years. There is no explanation for that. Also, the technology on the planet is advancing way faster than normal self-generated technological advancement.

The planet a long time back was said to be a prison planet. Furthermore, its population has only been there a few thousand years, and the planet is ready to blow itself up. It is 1989 and the cold war is in full swing. But why war? Don’t nations usually solve their disputes peacefully, unless someone outside is pushing war?

Without giving the plot away, our officer has to prepare an intelligence estimate on the planet and return. Will the galaxy out there feel threatened by these short-lived, and fast breeding races of Earth? What will happen if they get off the planet?

The first few books are to build the universe out there, and around the reader. They get you familiar with the characters. Then in the fourth book, Magi, the plot kicks off, and you better hold your hat. Here is where you get introduced to telepathy, telekinesis; and even if you do not believe it, it exists and it is in this book.

To have faster than light speed travel, one needs to work out exactly how can a person and ship travel faster than light. There is a way, and that is outlined in the book, but later on. However to do this, it is needed to look at what is the physical universe, and what is its true make up. To be exact, the author reconstructs space and its so called vacuum, and what it really is, and the properties that space has. It is not nothing. The current models used by science just do not quite fit, so this is taken up in what is termed, Broadmatter Theory.

Next is time travel, and this is introduced to the reader in several stages. The first is to be able to project oneself to an earlier or later time to when one is, so as to alter one’s mind in that other time. This is déjàvu in this book. Next is to take one’s body through time itself, and it also needs an examination of how the universe works, and how this can work too. So, with all this nutted out, as well as how to access these otherwise very extra human abilities, the background is set for our character to solve what ails not only Earth, but every major civilization out there in this galaxy.

As to the story, it will have you weeping one moment and laughing the next. Some of it is bloody, as space opera is just that. The story spans over a thousand years. The characters are very real, so let the author build up the worlds around you. It is an excellent yarn with a brilliant plot. This story has never been told. It is absolutely unique. Enjoy it.

There are maps so you do not get lost, a large glossary, with pages of references and notes in the back matter. Most importantly, have fun. And one last piece of information is: remember, this story is written on a tapestry of fact. Have a great and fulfilling reading experience.

About Nick Broadhurst

The Sequetus Series started being written in 1987, the year the story kicks off. He started the first books using pen and paper and compiled many journals with his writings. Soon, however, he bought a new Amstrad computer, and he was away. By book ten he was living in Tokyo and he was still at it, writing this story. By the twenty-third book, the series was complete, and it is 2014.

This series of books is an epic piece of literature. The author, Nick Broadhurst, has lived and worked in over a dozen countries around the world, with Australia, Japan and the USA being the three longest. He has lived a life of adventure, and included here is a lot of time in Asia, volunteering on disaster sites. Professionally Nick is an architect, a construction contractor and building project manager. Nick is Australian. He also paints.

There have been many different responses to having read these books. They vary, but many readers claim that they changed. So if you want to read them, good for you. There is a lot in these books. It is hoped you enjoy them as much as the author says he did writing them.

I had new cupcakes to bake, a new treasure to hunt, and a new dragon in town — literally. Who wouldn’t be ecstatic filling their days with chocolate, trinket collecting, and martial arts training?

Yeah … me.

Because no matter how much chocolate I ate, I couldn’t fill the dark pit in my soul. A darkness born from blood alchemy. A darkness that reeked of the black magic I now knew I was capable of creating.

Maybe it was time to walk away.

But what if there were important things left to do? What if I was the only one who could do what needed to be done?

I wasn’t sure I could handle the responsibility, but as long as I had my chocolate stash and a good friend to back me up, I was willing to give it a try.
