About the Author

Douglas Seidler is an Assistant Professor of Interior Design at Marymount University. He was a professor of interior design for six years at the New England School of Art & Design at Suffolk University and an adjunct professor of architecture for six years at the Boston Architectural College.



While pursuing his graduate degree in architecture, he taught architecture at the University of Florida and the Preservation Institute: Nantucket. He teaches an expansive curriculum of graduate and undergraduate design studios, including Foundation Studio, Materials and Methods Studio, Furniture Design, Senior Studio, Computer Drafting, Construction Documents, Design Communication, and Thesis Documentation.



Seidler is an NCIDQ Certificate holder and a LEED Accredited Professional for New Construction and Existing Buildings.



With over 12 years of professional experience, Seidler lead numerous design projects with The Scott Partnership in Orlando, FL, Morris Architects in Orlando, FL, and most recently Ellenzweig Associates in Cambridge, MA. During this time, Seidler worked on projects for the Hard Rock Café, Orlando and the Portofino Bay Hotel, Orlando. He is an associate member of the AIA / BSA.



Seidler's academic research focuses on the application of pedagogical research in design education. He has published two textbooks, both with Fairchild Books, and numerous papers on design education.



Digital Drawing for Designers: A Visual Guide to AutoCAD, Seidler's first book, explores the relationship between hand drawing and digital drawing.



Hand Drawing for Designs: Communicating Ideas through Architectural Graphics, co-authored with Amy Korté, explores hand drawing as a tool to explore, refine, and communicate design.



Seidler pursued his Masters in Architecture at the University of Florida. While at the University, he studied at the Vicenza Institute of Architecture (Vicenza, Italy) and the Preservation Institute: Nantucket (Nantucket, MA). Graduating at the top of his class, Seidler was awarded the AIA Henry Adams Medal.
